  • Hi,

To set the default browser as Internet Explorer 11, please refer to the following article:

Set the default browser using Group Policy

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/internet-explorer/ie11-deploy-guide/set-the-default-browser-using-group-policy?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Regarding your requirement, I haven't found one perfect solution yet. Sorry for the limited help on this case.

If you want to use IE only in your environment, we recommend you use Software Restriction Policies (SRPs) or Applocker to disable the other Browsers as a workaround.

It is appreciated that the other members in our forum can share their experience with us about this scenario.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Hi,

Based on research, there is no predefined GP to make internet explorer as default browser. It is not a single registry key that we can change and make IE as default browser, which involves the file associations and so many other registry entries.

You can try to modify following registry to set default browser, after then apply the registry settings through Group Policy:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https

Note: Remember to take a backup before modifying the registry.
