Web Forms and Screenscraping CICS Screens RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are going to develop a new web app using vs2010 or vs2012.  It is a rewrite from an old VB6 windows app.

One requirement is that the new web app will need to screenscrape from a CICS COBOL green screens connected to a IBM mainframe.  Also will need to populate data from the web form back to the same green screens.

Currently, the old VB6 app is using ehlapi32.dll api which is an IBM emulation program to pass data from and back to the 3270 screens.

Since, I'm developing web forms using VS201 or vs2012, can someone point me in the right direction to get started?  Can I use a BisTalk Host Integration Server to do the equivalent?  Is this something that can be done from the client on the web form?

  • Hi, You can use HIS (Host Integration Server) 2010 together with VS2010. If you would like to use VS2012, you should wait for HIS 2013 which will be available this year ! HIS allows you to connect to the IBM Mainframe through CICS (TCP or LU62) or you can use the screen scraper called Session Integrator. After installing HIS you will find a folder under \Program Files\Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010\SDK with some samples of screen scrapping. Please also consider the possibility to use the CICS connection from HIS (like IBM Transaction Gateway). HIS includes the following features : * Data Integration -> DB2 (like IBM Data Studio) * Transaction Integration -> CICS (like IBM Transaction Gateway) * Session Integration -> 3270 (like IBM ehlapi32.dll) * Network Integration -> Emulation (like IBM Communication Gateway) Best Regards,

  • As Steve mentioned, you'd want to start with the HIS 2010 SDK to look at the Session Integrator and Transaction Integrator samples. The HIS 2010 documentation is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/gg162969.aspx.

You might also want to take a look at the HIS Dev Center page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/biztalk/hh441721) that has links to HIS information.

    Thanks...
