Install Hardware Application in last. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    for our deployment we use CustomSettings.ini section to auto-detect hardware and intall the appropriate application.
    Other applications bundle are choosen in MDT assistant.

    ex:

    [Settings] Priority=Model,ByLaptop,Default [ThinkPad T420] Applications001={be9d2c47-1182-4dae-af74-b584d9bd39fb} Applications002={f31d3de0-a62f-48d7-aa43-cb261bd33593} [ThinkPad X240] Applications001={be9d2c47-1182-4dae-af74-b584d9bd39f3} Applications002={f31d3de0-a62f-48d7-aa43-cb261bd33596}

    [ByLaptop]
    Subsection=Laptop-%IsLaptop%

    [Laptop-True]
    Applications003={f31d3de0-a62f-48d7-aa43-cb261bd33596}

    I want to install these application in last during our deployment.

    I tried to use Applications099 and Application098 in CS.ini :), but no luck.

    Is there any solutions without using TaskSequence to force some applications to be installed in last ?

  • What number you add to the end doesn't change anything unless you have 001-097 before them.  You can add an Install application step in your task sequence that filters on Model and is located in the TS when you want the installs to happen.

    Logs are very important. https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Mention any customizations you have made.

  • As Ty mentioned if you want them to install last, then add them directly to the task sequence and you can choose when they install. Be sure to remove them from customsettings otherwise they will install when the task sequence gets to the "Install Applications" task.

    Another way to choose the order of when applications install is to create an application bundle and it will install in the order you assign (from top to bottom).

    In my example below I have certain apps set to install in a specific order by adding them directly to the task sequence.

  • Dan,

    Thanks for taking the time to answer that completely :)

  • Ty,

    thanks for the explanation about the number order importance.

    "What number you add to the end doesn't change anything unless you have 001-097 before them.  "

    Even if, it-is possible to do it with TS, I wish to avoid because we have many(>20) models and many TS and it is easier to manage them centralized in CS.ini.
