Unable to connect to SBS2003 using Vista VPN RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi - We are running Small Business Server 2003 SP2 and have recently been asked to set up a remote user to access our network through Microsoft VPN.  The user credentials have been created and we are able to connect via VPN using Windows XP Pro. This confirms that the user credentails are okay. The remote user is using Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2) and is not able to connect via VPN. The following error is displayed 'Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed. For further assistance, click more info or search Help & Support Center for this error number'. Unfortunately 'more info' was not available and the ' Help & Support' did not offer any assistance. The SBS2003 RRAS authentication is set to MS-CHAP and MS-CHAP (v2) and I understand Vista uses MS-CHAP (v2) by default.

I would welcome your input in how to correct this issue.

    Regards

to me this error mobile broadband.

    • If two or more VPN clients are installed on the computer, ensure only one is running to avoid conflicts. Check both for running applications and also for Windows services.
    • Firewalls and antivirus programs may be running that block access to the VPN ports. Temporarily disable these to troubleshoot.
    • Try other standard repairs and troubleshooting steps - reboot the client computer, delete and re-install the VPN client configuration settings, and find others who have working setups to compare for network configuration differences

    thanks
