Can't get out of clean boot mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using Windows 10 with the latest updates. I followed Microsoft's instructions to get into clean boot so I could figure out which programs were using all the disk as seen in the task manager. I figured that out and now I'm attempting to boot normally and it won't do it for me.

I click on "normal startup" in the system configuration (while logged in as an administrator and opening the program with a "run as administrator" click just to be safe. I've done this multiple times and each time I get back to system configuration it shows "selective startup" again.

    Any ideas?

It's an old Gateway nv55s14u laptop.

Hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen.
Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart.
Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears.
    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced Options
    Click Command Prompt

Type bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot and hit Enter key.

Exit the command prompt then restart.

  • Click Command Prompt

Type bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot and hit Enter key.

Exit the command prompt then restart.

When I type that out I get the error: "The specified entry identifier is not valid. The parameter is incorrect."

Thanks for the try, though. :-)

  • Make sure that you run bcdedit in cmd console and not in powershell console.

In powershell console type "cmd" then try your bcdedit command - it should work.
