Stopping WMI during SCCM Task Sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have some software that when is installed will stop the WMI service. We use a SCCM Task Sequence for installing our monthly updates to all our clients (which are Windows servers, 16000 of them). Of course when this software install runs it stops WMI, which then stops the SCCM agent and task sequence engine.

Question is, how can it be possible to install this software? We can't be the only one with this software, which is Symantec Netbackup.

  • Hi,

I wouldn't use a task sequence for it as it will stop, I would use a normal package/program and possibly use a wrapper instead that writes a status .MIF file if needed to let sccm know that the installation was succesful, very much like you would if you would upgrade the SCCM client using a Package/program, here is an example: http://ccmexec.com/2011/04/installing-multiple-sccm-client-hotfixes/

Then the sccm client will when started again check the MIF file for installation status and know if it failed/succedeed.
