Merge query returns True or False RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I would like to know if there is a M command to return true or false when the merge between 2 queries match or not.

Like in Excel with the ISNA function that returns true or false is the VLOOKUP function returns something or not

  • No. Merges in Power Query are similar to joins in database tables. What you can do is use a left outer join when merging the tables. With a left outer join, values in the second table that do not match corresponding values in the second table show up as nulls in the combined tables. You can add a new column that tests whether a column has a null or not, e.g. Table.AddColumn(PreviousStepName, "No Match", each [ColumnName] = null), although this new column will be redundant. Null values already indicate that no match occurred.
