Lync 2013 / Skype For Business Coexistence - Simple URLs RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are migrating from Lync 2013 to Skype For Business and will be running in coexistence for some time.

As far as the Simple URLs are concerned (meet, dialin, admin) how will those be impacted by coexistance.

Will anything need to change other then pointing them to the new internal DNS for the S4B servers.

Will the external DNS need to be modified for the Simple URLs or will the external DNS settings still function properly for both my Lync2013 and S4B users.

  • Mlross,

Simple URLs are the same for Skype for Business and Lync 2013. You can have the Simple URLs pointing to your Lync 2013 environment when migrating users over to your Skype for business pool. Internal DNS records will need to be changed when you move you decommission your Lync 2013 Pool though so the simple URLs no longer point to the old pool.

External DNS records will stay the same.

  • Hi mlross,

In addition to above suggestions, I will add: when Lync server 2013 is coexisted with Skype for business 2015, DNS record could point to Lync server 2013, or Skype for business server 2015, because request from Lync server 2013 could be redirected to Skype for business server 2015 as above said.

However, DNS record should be pointed to Skype for business server 2015 when we will decommission Lync server 2013.
