Does the "Project Manager" update the Task's Complete manually in the Tasks Summary ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

When a team member "Completes" a task successfully and completely and sends it for approving, the project manager will approve the task, so its "complete" will be 100%.

In my case, the project manager has to go back to the Project Plan, to the task summary in the PWA, and update the Task's Complete to 4100% manually. Is that correct? should not the task's complete be 100% once the approver accepts it from the team member?

    Thanks

No, the project manager does NOT need to manually update the % Complete value for the summary task.  What the PM needs to do is to actually PUBLISH the latest changes to the project in order for the summary task to show the new % Complete value in PWA.

Are your PMs using Microsoft Project to manage their projects or are they using the PWA interface instead?  If they are using Microsoft Project, they need to approve task updates on the Approval Center page in PWA, then they need to open each of the updated projects in Microsoft Project.  Once they have the projects open in Microsoft Project, they can analyze task variance, make plan revisions as needed, and then PUBLISH the latest schedule changes.  That will force the updates to appear in PWA.

    Hope this helps.

  • As Dale said, the %complete on the summary task MUST NOT be updated manually. It will be calculated automatically based on the task update approvals of the tasks.

    Hope this helps,

  • Thanks indeed. we're using PWA for managing the projects.

Your answer was very helpful, as usual :)
