ConfigMgr 2012 RTM Prerequisites Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all.

I'm trying to install SCCM 2012 on a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

But i keep getting the "SQL Server Service running account" error.

I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 with CU 6. I did this using the following commandlines:

    setup.exe /q /ACTION=Install /ERRORREPORTING="False" /FEATURES=SQLENGINE,RS,AS,IS,SSMS,TOOLS,BIDS,ADV_SSMS,CONN /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /INSTANCEDIR="D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server" /SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\System" /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS" /SQLSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" /AGTSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /RSSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\System" /RSSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /ASSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\System" /ASSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Disabled /ASSYSADMINACCOUNTS="BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS" /ISSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\System" /ISSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Disabled /ASCOLLATION="Latin1_General_CI_AS" /SQLCOLLATION="SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" /TCPENABLED="1" /NPENABLED="1" /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms

    SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU.exe /Action=Patch /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /AllInstances /Quiet

    SQLServer2008R2-KB2679367-x64.exe /Action=Patch /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms /AllInstances /Quiet

SQL and SCCM is located on the same server.

Here is a snip from my ConfigMgrPrereq.log:

I hope someone out there can help to resolve this issue.

  • Update..

Since the first time i recieved the error, when I tried to install SCCM 2012, I have used the "Assess Server Readiness" tool provided with SCCM 2012.

I did this because I didn't want to go through the setup steps everytime, just to see it fail in the prerequisites check.

Just for the fun of it, I tried to start the full installation again, and now it went straight through the prerequisites check and installed successfully.

So apparently my issue is solved, since the installation was successfull.

But now I'm curious to know, why the "Assess Server Readiness" tool still reports the error mentioned above.

  • Are the SQL services running? I would try to change the sql service account to verify if it is a problem with the account that you want to use for SQL.

  • All SQL services except Analysis and Reporting services are all up and running.

I've tried changing the SQL server service account to 3 different user accounts. Including the Domain Administrator, a dedicated domain user account and the system account, but no luck.

  • Are you able to login on the instances via SQL server management studio?

Hmm..... What I see in the log.. is the server already restarted after the installation of SQL. Maybe it's missing some classes...

  • The server has been restarted numerous times.

If i browse through the Win32_Services using WBEMTEST i see the following SQL related services:

    MSOLAP$<InstanceName>
    MSSQL$<InstanceName>
    MSSQLServerADHelper100

  • I had a similar experience with the install. After several failed prerequisite checks, I ran the "Assess Server Readiness" tool, and re-tried the install. This time, even though the prerequisite checker said it couldn't connect to my remote SQL server, I still had the option to begin the install. The install ran successfully. Hopefully I do not encounter any other related issues further down the road...
