Activate Server 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm adding a Server 2008 R2 server to a domain that has two Server 2003 servers.  I purchased a Windows Server 2008R2 Std charity license.  The Volume License Service Center lists the Server 2008 license on my account, but provides a KMS key rather than a MAK.  Can I complete the Activation process using this new type of key?  Do I need an MAK, and if so, how do I get one?

  • Hello,

You would need to get a MAK key, since it sounds like you will not be able to meet the min requirement of 5 for Servers. You can contact the activation center and speak with a representative and ask them to convert your KMS key to a MAK key. You will need to provide several things (can't remember all of them for some reason right now) like your Company Name, the Confirmation #, Activation ID, Name, etc...
