Win10 build 1703 Control Panel?

    Question

  • Hi All,

Under build 1703, the control panel has been removed from <win><X>.

Is there a way to go into the registry or other and add it back?

  • No. Sorry.

    Indeed!  There is no method.

Okay, that out of the way, here is how you can add Control Panel back to <ctrl><X> or add any other app if you like.  You can  put the Control Panel back into <win><X> with the Win+X Menu Editor:

Download and install Win+X Menu Editor from:

    From the Editor:
--> delete the Control Panel that is already there (it doesn't show anyway)
           --> add C:\Windows\System32\Control.exe
--> press the "Restart Explorer" button

    No. Sorry.

You can pin it to Start, pin it to taskbar, or cate a desktop shortcut.

In the search box, type control panel > do NOT press Enter key >  at the top, right click at Control Panel > click Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar > or click Open file location > right click at Control Panel shortcut > click Send to > click Desktop (create shortcut).

  • sometimes the decisions M$ makes takes my breath away.

on my machine, I just created a shortcut to "c:\Windows\System32\control.exe"

on my customer's machines, I will just use "<win><R>control" or better yet, talk them into letting me install Classic Shell

  • Microsoft's plan is to do away Control Panel.

That is why Settings has replaced it on right click Start menu.

That bizarre, awkward touch screen setting screen is only about 3% of the way to replacing the Control Panel.  M$ is really jumping the gun on this one.  They should wait until they actually have a functional replacement from the Control Panel.  And the vast majority of users are using W-10 as a desktop, not as a tablet, so putting more effort into a setting tablet style app is just going to make it more bizarre and awkward.   There is no explaining M$ at times.

I haven't verified if this works yet, but: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/show-control-panel-winx-menu I was so shocked and upset when i went to use my computer and discovered it had received this 1703 update, my computer is running poorly, and now access to the control panel is missing from win+x menu!?! I absolutely hate Microsoft Windows forced updates!!!
