Does Outlook Hotmail Connector only appear if you have a Hotmail account added to your Exchange Account? RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I prevent Hotmail Connector Upgrade from taking place?

Three people use the same computer. Win 7 Enterprise, Office 2010, 64 bit. 2nd person was added as an administrator yesterday and Outlook was configured for her Exchange 2010 account. She has a group calendar that she added to her Outlook account. 3rd person added as administrator on the computer today.

The problem is with the group calendar on this shared computer for the 2nd person. The appointments show up ok, but the user can't add, edit or delete appointments. Error message is "The operation failed because of a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, reinstall."  If she does the same thing on her own non-shared computer, There is no problem.

When I investigated Outlook's backstage view, with this 2nd person logged on and using Outlook on the shared computer, Account information said "Upgrade in Progress" "Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrading to OUtlook 2010. this one time process may take over 15 minutes and performance may be affected while the optimization is in progress." Then below that is a bar for "Upgrade Outlook Connector" "You must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector to continue using this e-mail account." Then there is an Upgrade Now button. The upgrade has been in progress for 2 days. Clicking Upgrade Now button doesn't change anything.

Uninstalled the Hotmail connector and installed the new one. Rebooted. Same problem with person #2.

User #2 swears she doesn't have a hotmail account and has no problem on her own computer. I verified this.

Interestingly, the 3rd person has no problems and no Hotmail Connector Upgrade is in progress.

For now the only thing that works is RDP to the individual users' computer. Then Outlook and the group calendar work fine.

  • Hi,

It seems to be caused by the corruption in Outlook profile. Have you tried to help the 2nd user creating a new Outlook profile?
If not, please try it and then inform the result for further support.
