Corrupt File RRS feed

  • Question

  • What could cause a corrupt file? I'm finding many tasks that have already completed now have durations erased which caused drastic difference between % complete and % work complete.

  • There are lots of things that could cause a corruption (master/subproject corruption, file saving flaw, network error, bug in Project, cosmic rays.... anything).

Take a look at http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm#Handling_project_file_corruption_and/or_bloat to see if anything helps you recover.

Or just go to a most recent backup.

  • Rob,

Although the old FAQs are still available, most of the relevant ones have been replaced with Wiki articles. The referenced FAQ 43 is replaced by the following:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/32054.ms-project-clearing-file-corruption-andor-bloat.aspx

The only real difference is the FAQ lists a Method 5, which isn't a viable option with current versions of Project.

  • Cool.  Of course I didn't know that, the old-school guy that I am!

How to find this? The "Wiki" link here points to Everything under the sun. Anyway to put a link on this site that points to Project FAQ?

(this if of course off topic, but sort of relevant!)

  • Rob,

The original intent was to convert the old Project FAQs, that were still relevant, into Wiki articles. Once we got at least 10 converted, a separate Project Portal was to be created for easy reference. Julie Sheets and I divvied up the FAQs and created the replacement Wiki articles. Julie added a few new ones and so did I. Unfortunately creating the Portal fell by the wayside and we each have a group of conversions. However I do have bookmarks for both groups. My group is here:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=john-project&refinement=90&beta=0&ac=4

    And Julie's group is here:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=julie%20sheets&ac=5#refinementChanges=90&pageNumber=1&showMore=false
