  • How do I show a task that takes 30 hours of work spread over a 35 day period. I'm using Project 2010.

The easiest way to do this is to make the task a Fixed Duration task. You can do this either by displaying the Type field and selecting Fixed Duration or by going to the Task Information window. Set the task type in the Advanced tab. Once the task is fixed duration, you can then enter the work hours. Project will linearly spread those hours over the full duration. If you want a different spread, you can contour the work in either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view.

    Hope this helps.

    Do the following:

    1. Display the Gantt Chart view.
    2. Right-click anywhere in the Gantt Chart pane and select the Show Split item on the shortcut menu. This displays the Task Entry view with the Gantt Chart view in the top pane and the Task Form view in the bottom pane.
    3. In the Gantt Chart pane, select the task in question.
    4. In the Task Form pane, click the Task Type pick list and select the Fixed Work item, and then click the OK button in the Task Form pane.
    5. In the Task Form pane, select the resource in question and set the Work to 30 hours, and then click the OK button.
    6. In the Task Form pane, change the Duration to 35 days and then click the OK button.

    Hope this helps.

  • Give the task a 35 day duration. Assign a resource at 30/35 units
