Hybrid: Autodiscover for Both "Synced with Active Directory" and "In Cloud"

    Question

  • Hi There,

We currently have a hybrid Exchange 2010/Office 365 environment where we've migrated user mailboxes to office 365.

In hopes of being able to finally shut down our end we'd like to start making some users "In Cloud" a bit at a time. However, our autodiscover is currently pointing at the Exchange 2010 server and while "Synced with Active Directory" accounts can autodiscover just fine, "In Cloud" accounts cannot.

Is there a way to have these both working at once?

    Thanks

    Paddy

  • Hi.

Now your primary point for autodiscover services is Exchange 2010.

Your must be create AD and Exchange remote type account in onPrem organization.

    New-RemoteMailbox

Sync account with O365 and activate mailbox in O365.

  • To add to what Oleg is telling you, you shouldn't be creating mailboxes in the cloud like that, you should be creating remote mailboxes on-premises and licensing them in the cloud.

You may be able to get on-premises accounts to match the ones that were previously created in the cloud.  This is a method to fix what's broken, not a go-forward plan for account creation.

If all mailboxes are and will be in the cloud, you can change your Autodiscover to point to the cloud URL in the Domains list in the portal.  Remember to use Set-ClientAccessServer -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri to point Outlook Autodiscover to that URL if necessary as well as in DNS.
