Mail Flow (Send & Receive)

    Question

  • In a DAG Environment running two Exchange Servers 2013 (Exch1 & Exch2) when you take down one server (Exch1) doesn't all the mailboxes on the down server (Exch1) backup copy runs on the second server (Exch2), so the users on the down server is still able to send & receive mail. I'm trying to figure out why the user on the down server wasn't able to send mail when the server was down.

  • Hi,

would you care to describe "wasn't able to send" in more detail? Was she able to Access her Mailbox AT ALL? Was it by Outlook (if yes, cached or online), OWA, ActiveSync or something else? What did she experience after trying to send a mail?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

  • User who's mailbox that is on the server that went down couldn't send or receive mail via Outlook but they were able to open Outlook a read their mail.  If they used the Web Client they could send Mail.  Yes Online. No error message when the user try to send mail But I did notice in the Event Viewer "The RPC to request redelivery from transport dumpster on Hub Transport server  failed MaxRunningRequestsExceeded.

What do you mean by "couldn't send or receive"?  Exactly what are they doing and exactly and completely what do they see?
