Fallback UAG design???? What do you think? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am thinking of building two UAG boxes.  Client has two locations and one AD forest.  The networks are setup with two TMG servers as fall back now.  They use a network device that monitors the two servers and returns the dns address of the one that is up.

    Example:

remote.client.com points to 1.1.1.1 when primary is up.  If primary goes down, remote.client.com points to 2.2.2.2

They cannot vlan across sites, so cant use normal NLB.  They do not use IPv6 internally so, they would need to build ISATAP internally in order to build Direct Access with two servers normally.

What would happen if we use ISATAP dns records that point to primary when it is up, but if is goes down it points to the secondary.  I would build the primary server as normal, test every thing, then, change the ISATAP records and build secondary server.  How would two server react do you think?  Not the best solution, but would it work?
