Migrating LYNC 2010 to Skype for Business (SfB) Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Guys,

We are planning to Migrate our LYNC 2010 Servers to Skype for Business online. I had found some article online and If I oversimplify this for a high level plan, would the below mentioned be sufficient?

    1. Upgrade CU on Lync 2010 Platform (March 2013 or Later)
    2. Build SfB ( Administrative Tools Box (or determine where they can be leveraged)
    3. Generate External DNS records [SRV  _sip._tls.domain.com     Port:5016      sip.domain.com]
    4. Enable in Office 365 Tenant & Configure
    5. Migrate a User and Test

    Please Advise
    .

  • Hi RishiAggarwal,

You are right. If you want to migrate Lync Server 2010 to SFB online, you need to configure Lync 2010 hybrid environment at first. For Lync Server 2010, you must update FE and Edge Servers to the latest CU, then install SFB administrative tools as Lync 2010 is not directly compatible with SFB online. Details about hybrid configuration you could refer to the following blog: Lync 2010 hybrid configuration with Skype for Business Online

After the hybrid environment configured, you need to migrate users to the SFB online, details about this you could refer to the blog: Skype for Business / Lync Server On-premises User migration to Skype for Business Online (Cloud tenant).  The steps is same as the Lync Server 2010.
