Upgrading Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been trying to upgrade my network to Windows 10 from Windows 7-8.1 Pro with MDT using this guide on TechNet.  The problems have been varied and frustrating starting with trying to get a reference image imported into MDTU1.  The guide seems pretty good with the exception that it doesn't provide download links for Windows 10.  The media creation tool creates an iso that's not usable by MDT and attempts at extracting a working WIM from the esd files failed for me.  Fortunately, someone provided me with a link (that I didn't document) that downloaded a Windows 10 Pro iso from some other location in Microsoft's nebulous website that imported into MDTU1 without issue.  Got everything setup with MDT and did a test deployment on a VM which ran through smoothly, albeit a bit slowly.  When I tried to run the same process on an end user machine, I get to step 8 'Upgrading Windows' and then it just drops out.  Checking the setupact.log in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther on the machine attempting the upgrade, I get the following:

This is on a Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1 Pro.  I've uninstalled Antivirus, disabled Windows Defender and Windows Firewall to ensure nothing is being blocked.  I've downloaded the Windows 10 drivers for this system and injected them into MDT...I just can't seem to figure out what the error is.
