Outlook 2010 crashes frequently RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was running Windows7 and Office 2010 professional 64bit but decided to go back to the 32bit version. I reformatted and loaded Windows 7 clean and then the 32 bit professional Office 2010. Now when I use Outlook it crashes about every other time I try to open an Email. It says looking for a solution then reboots the program. Very frustrating and did not have the problem with the 64bit version. I have Exchange server account and a POP account that I use offline. But it crashes when online or offline. So I deleted Outlook and reloaded but still doing the same thing.

Was reading some other posts and I'll add that I'm using Avast Pro antivirus. Also, tried Outlook in safe mode both offline and online and the problem is not there. I was able to open as many email as fast as I could. Went back and loaded without safe mode, opened one email and closed it opend the second and Outlook crashed.

  • Hi Sally,

I found the problem it was the addin for PDF Converter. I unchecked that and no more crashing. The link you sent me was very helpful. Thanks for the help.

  • Hi,

Thank you for using Outlook IT Pro Discussions forum.

First, I would like to confirm if you are using Windows 7 64bit.

There are many factors that can cause Outlook crashing.

At this time, I suggest trying the suggestions in this KB article to troubleshoot the issue.

Note: The steps in Outlook 2010 are similar. If you need any help, please let me know.

  • Hi Sally,

No I'm using the 32 bit version now. I removed the 64 bit version of Windows 7 and Office 2010 by reformatting my compter. Then loaded both products in 32 bit. I had some programs that I use all the time that just didn't like the 64 bit version.

However, the Outlook crashing issue started after the reformat and the reload to 32 bit, which is the frustrating thing. I just cannot open more than one email without the program crashing. I read one then close it or move it to a folder then open the next and crash.

  • LarryInLima, that was the answer for me.  Thank you for the great tip.  I am running Win 7 and just installed Outlook 2010.  It was crashing every time I tried to open or reply to any email message.  I turned off the PDF Converter 6 add-in, and that resolved my problem.  Nuance just released PDF Converter 7, but I do not have it yet.  Hopefully they have fixed this bug in the new release, as PDF Converter is a really handy tool.
