Windows Live Essentials 2011 deployment options using offline installer

    Question

  • I have downloaded the Windows Live Essentials 2011 Offline installer provided by Microsoft (they sure do bury it on the website, not easy to find).  You can find it here:  http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=61168194-26aa-4ce6-910a-aeb36fc89d17

I want to install this during a task sequence and have it available for Run Advertised Programs.  Does anyone know of or where I can find the silent installation commands?

I only want to install the following:

    • Photo Galllery and Movie Maker
    • Writer

    Do NOT want:

    • Messenger
    • Windows Live Mesh
    • Bing Bar
    • Outlook Connector Pack
    • Mail
    • Family Safety
    • Messenger Companion

Can someone help me with this?

  • Bah!  Apparently my GoogleFoo was off today.  Seems like I found it now.  http://www.appdeploy.com/packages/detail.asp?id=1954

I'll check this out and report back.

Edit: (including the text from other site)

to silent install Windows Live essential use switchs like this :

    wlsetup-all.exe /AppSelect:<ApplicationID>,!<ApplicationID> /q

/AppSelect:<ApplicationID> select features you want to install

!<ApplicationID> are features that should not be installed

    /q mean silent installation

    <ApplicationID> can be :

    ALL (Full live essential)
    Mail
    PhotoGallery
    OLC (Outlook Connector)
    Messenger
    Writer
    MovieMaker
    Companion (Messenger Companion)
    FamilySafety
    wlsync (Live Mesh)
    Bingbar
    idcrl (Live Sign in Assistant)

    examples :

Installing live mesh and live writer only :

    wlsetup-all.exe /AppSelect:wlsync,Writer /q

Installing full package except bingbar and messenger :

    wlsetup-all.exe /AppSelect:ALL,!messenger,!Bingbar /q

    some useful additional options :

    /log:<filename> logging your installation

    /noMU disable Windows Update

/noHomepage prevent homepage to become Msn.com

/noLaunch prevent Messenger to launch just after installation as finished.

/noSearch prevent your default search engin to be replaced by Bing.com

  • Hello,

Here is command switch for this package :

    /AppSelect:[ProductID] or ![ProductID]
    /log:log_location
/NOToolbarCEIP (to not opt into Toolbar CEIP)
/NOhomepage (to not set home page defaults)
/Nolaunch (blocks all applications from running automatically after your installation is complete)
/NOMU (to opt the computer into Microsoft Update)
/nosearch (to not set search defaults)
    /q (for a silent/unattended install)

Then, you have theses applications :

    companion
    silverlight
    familysafety
    mail
    messenger
moviemaker (photo Gallery is included in
    olc
    wlsync
    writer
    bingbar
    idcrl32/idcrl64

    So you need to use : WLSetup-all.exe /q /AppSelect:moviemaker,writer

  • Jean, where did you find those commands?  They do not all match up withthe ones I found on AppDeploy.com (that i linked above).  I want to be sure to give the correct information when I mark Answered.

  • Chase,

It was based on my memories but I check on my labs and if you use WLSetup-all.exe /AppSelect:moviemaker,writer the installer preselect these three products : MovieMaker, Writer, and Gallery (because it's included in MovieMaker)

  • This works nicely, thank you to all contributors.

One additional question ... Is there a switch to pre-agree to the EULA?

If not, will unprivileged users be able to agree?

    Thanks a bunch,

  • Thanks everyone for the command line switches and link to the offline download.  I'm also in the same boat as David, I need to script the EULA, if I run Movie Maker after installation as an unprivileged user I get a UAC prompt for authentication.  Has anyone else run into this and figured out a workaround?

    Thanks!

  • Found the answer I was looking for.  The EULA can be accepted by adding a registry entry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Common\ Create a string called TOUVersion and set the value to 15.0.0.0

See this link for more information (http://angrytechnician.wordpress.com/2010/10/01/deploying-windows-live-essentials-2011/)

It's not the easiest answer, because now I have to add that in as a GPO preference to run on every user account that decides to login.  If anyone finds a better solution please let me know!

  • An alternative for setting the EULA registry value for each user, is Active Setup http://www.appdeploy.com/articles/activesetup.asp

You can also add /r:n as a switch to stop the auto reboot if deploying when you don't want a reboot such as MDT

  • Sorry I know nothing at all about the silent installation commands.

However I would like to thank you for providing the link to the completely obscure hidden page where Microsoft have buried the installer.

None of the searches which I performed found Microsofts own page for the Offline Installer (!)

    Many thanks for your link.

I hope you solved your installation setup problem.

  • /silent /NoToolbarCEIP /NoCEIP /NoHomepage /NoLaunch /NoSearch /Nomu /AppSelect:WLSync,Mail,Messenger,Writer,MovieMaker

Works well for 2012, just remove the apps you do not want.

Ok for standard user, no registry entries required
