How to modify port used by DPM RRS feed

  • dpm 2007 use this port and ports for DCOM, dns ,ldap , Kerberos and NETBIOS cannot be changed because are standard protocol with well-known ports (They are used by system processes that provide widely-used types of network services) .

    DPM uses TCP 5718 and 5719. I think what you are wanting to do is lock down the RPC ports.
    This can be done via the following article:

    There is a "gotcha" or three keep in mind.

    1.) This usually needs to be done on both the DPM server and each target server.
    2.) This will affect all RPC traffic for those servers.
    3.) If your port range for RPC is not enough and you install an application that tries to grab a port for RPC traffic it may fail.

    If you go this route, then you should still have a healthy amount of ports and not try to restrict it too much. 
    "I need an exact port range of 1024-1040 only"  this thought process usually causes the firewall admin to have to constantly change the settings when RPC traffic fails because the restriction is too much.
