    Is it possible to export or genertate DDL SQL code froma database model within 2010 ?

  • Database code generation was possible with earlier versions of Visio that were embedded into Visual Studio versions up through Visual Studio 2005.  You will need an older version of Visual Studio if you want to use Visio for database generation.

    So with Visio 2010 the answer is no.

  • It seeems strange to me that this functionality is only exists in a version that is no longer available.  Do you know the rationale as to why it was dropped - or whether we will ever see it reappear in the product?

  • Rationale and rational unfortunately aren't the same :-(. The add-in wasn't 'owned' by the Visio team, but rather by the team that 'owns' Visual Studio. Watching the VS development process (and it's associated tools) shows where they are going (and I doubt if they are looking back).
