ADFS Server Name Change RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a two-server ADFS 3.0 farm. One server in the farm was given a host name which doesn't conform to our supplier's naming convention and we have been asked to change the hostname to comply.

How will the name change affect the ADFS application or the communication between the two servers? Will the connection to the local WID database be affected?

I plan to create a DNS alias with the old name pointing to the new name as the target, just in case.

    Your advice would be appreciated.

  • Just the name of the primary server is stored in the database. So you could just transfer the Primary role to the one which will not have a name change and change your name just fine. If the sever you wish to change is a secondary server, there is nothing to do, just change your name. No alias required.
