  • Are you performing the proper WSUS maintenance including but not limited to running the Server Cleanup Wizard (SCW), declining superseded updates, running the SQL Indexing script, etc.?

    https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/how-to-setup-manage-and-maintain-wsus-part-8-wsus-server-maintenance/

    You can also try:

    * Make the following "Advanced Settings" for WSUS Application Pool in IIS:
        - Queue Length: 25000 from 1000
        - Limit Interval (minutes): 15 from 5
        - "Service Unavailable" Response: TcpLevel from HttpLevel
    * (Stop IIS first) Edit the web.config ( C:\Program Files\Update Services\WebServices\ClientWebService\web.config ) for WSUS:
        - Replace <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="4096" /> with <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="204800" executionTimeout="7200"/>
    * Adjust the private memory limit.
        - If you have WSUS Automated Maintenance (WAM), from the WAM Shell run:
            .\Clean-WSUS.ps1 -SetApplicationPoolMemory 4096
        - If you don't have WAM, edit the pool's configuration directly to change it to 4194304 (4GB)

  • Hello,

If you cannot access the WSUS console, the CPU of the WSUS server may be at, or very close to, maximum utilization, causing the database to time out. If the database software times out, the WSUS console cannot be displayed.

One way of inadvertently overtaxing your WSUS server is to have antivirus software monitor the WSUS content directory. During synchronization, the antivirus software can overload the CPU. You can work around this situation by setting the antivirus software to ignore the directory where WSUS content is stored.

If you cannot access the WSUS console:

    ▪ May be the result of a resource problem (CPU spike due to real-time AV scanning on the content directory
    ▪ Makes sure the SQL and IIS services are actually running.
    ▪ Check SQL connectivity.
    ▪ Check Software distribution log for relevant errors.

    Best Regards,
    Ray Jia

  • Don't forget to stop IIS first.

Open "Notepad.exe" using Run as Administrator and then use file> Open to find the web.config file

  • Hello,

Could you please check the health of WSUS?

Open elevated CMD and navigate to C:\program files\update services\tools.

    Run: wsusutil checkhealth

Then check the event log to see if there is any error message.

    Best Regards,
    Ray

  • Hello,

Have you tried the same solution as before? Does it work?

Could you run a test to connect the WSUS remotely? The result would tell us if this issue is about your database or something else.

Or maybe you could just remove the SUP and WSUS, and reinstall them.

    Best Regards,
    Ray
