550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to submit to this server from edge server

    Question

  • I have an Hybrid configuration, with one edge server and two mailbox servers: Exchange 2016 and Exchange 2010.

When validating the outbound connector on Exchange Online to my organization, using as smarthost the edge server, the test pass and the emails for testing arrive to both mailbox servers.

But, sending an email from any Office 365 user (via outlook o via owa), the message is not delivered with the error: 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to submit to this server, generated for the edge server as response from the corresponding mailbox server.

If I change the smarthost to be the Mailbox server with Exchange 2016, everything works ok and all the messages are delivered.

    What I missing here?

  • Hi Ramiro,

Before we begin, I want to confirm:
    1. Do you configure Edge server after deploy hybrid environment?
    2. Do you change any settings on Edge server?

If we change any settings in Edge server (re-configure Edge subscription), we need to re-run Hybrid Configuration wizard to take the change effect.

Therefore, with Edge server, please ensure the inbound and outbound mail flow for On-premise Exchange mailbox first.
Then, I recommend to re-run HCW to configure mail flow between Exchange Online (EOP) and On-premise Exchange server.
