Unable to contact VMWare host machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm trying to use MVMC to convert a VM, something which I've managed to do in the past without issue.

The infrastructure is laid out as follows:

vCenter 5.0 managing cluster ESX 4.0 hosts, guests are Windows 2003 Standard

Windows Server 2012, Hyper-v installed, Failover cluster of 10 nodes, vSphere client 5.0 install, MVMC installed

At the first screen in MVMC I'm asked to provide the vCenter server I would like to connect. So I specify this, after a few seconds I get an error message saying "Unable to contact VMware host machine".

I've tried this from another server and it works fine, I would run the converter from here but that is not a hyper-v enable server nor is it part of the cluster.

Can any advise on where this could be going wrong? Are there any log files for this connection that I could look at?

  • Just to add to this, I've just managed to connect to the same vCenter server via a hyper-v enable Windows 2012 box. Could this be an issue with failover clustering?
