CDROM Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • CD/DVD Drive doesn't appear in the WE folders when a DVD video is loaded. It does operate as a data DVD (so the DVD laser is switching) and a data or music CD player.  The laptop is an ASUS M50SV made for Vista, originally run on WinXP Pro, upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64-bit and now running Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  Problem started with the Win 7 install, but I had more important things to do at the time.  The hardware manager calls the drive HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L ATA Device.  Pnp installs cdrom.sys (32-bit) on driver uninstall/reboot.  Regedit is of no use because the target upper and lower keys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} are absent anyway.  Driver search for the drive and on ASUS site was fruitless.
