Windows 7 security tab has disappeared from properties for a specific hard drive. How can I get it back? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Two days ago one of my external hard drives became read only. When I am attempting to get it to read and write by going into properties, the security tab is missing. The only tabs available for the folders are general, sharing and customise. Unclicking the read only tick mark has no real effect - next time I try to use it, it has reverted to read only. I tried typing attrib -r G:\*.* in the command window (I have administrator rights) and that did nothing. I have 200 Gb worth of files that I need to use but copying the data over to another hard drive, copies also the read-only protection. How do I take it off? It was never there in the first place. All my other hard drives seem fine.

Edit: By the way gpedit is found (several versions) but will not open, so I cannot edit anything.
