DPM Agent not installing in Windows Server 2008 R2

    Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to install SCDPM agent on one of my windows server 2008 R2 Server, Remote agent installation is failing with Error 347.

I tried installing Agent locally by copying SCDPM agent in local machine and running the installation with administrative privilege, the installation failed with error 0xc0000005 and error 1000 in event viewer.

I have this setup already installed in more than 200 servers, but I am getting this error in one particular server only.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Note:- All VSS writers are in good state with "no error".

    Thanks

    Rohit

  • Hi Mr. Leon,

Thanks for your replies, finally the problem during the installation of DPM Agent is resolved.

The issue resolved after implementing this solution for the failed installations.

Although my windows installer is still seems damaged, but I am able to install separate programs with the help of "MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diacab" file.

    What it fixes

    • Corrupted registry keys on 64-bit operating systems
    • Corrupted registry keys that control the update data
    • Problems that prevent new programs from being installed
    • Problems that prevent existing programs from being completely uninstalled or updated
    • Problems that block you from uninstalling a program through Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) in Control Panel

I have installed the Agent manually and attached the agent to DPM Server successfully.

  • Hi Rohit,

What version and build of DPM are you currently running?

The 347 error usually indicates that a prerequisite is missing, or most frequently the Windows Management Framework (WMF) needs to be installed or updated.

You can download the WMF from here:

    Windows Management Framework 4.0
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=40855

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Hi Leon,

I am using Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager (4.2.1603.0)

I have tried installing Windows Management Framework 4.0 in the same server, but the same was failed with error 20.

I think issue is with my windows installer itself, how to resolve it?

    Regards

    Rohit

  • Windows Management Framework 4.0  can only be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1, make sure you have that installed.

Make sure the server is up-to-date and have no other pending installations or a pending reboot.

You could try rebooting the server and then try to install the Windows Management Framework 4.0 (Run as administrator!).

For more information regarding the Windows Installer errors, you can check the CBS.log, which is located here:

    %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Also make sure no antivirus software is blocking the installations.

  • Hi Mr. Leon,

I have cleared the pending reboot and rebooted the server, after that my windows management framework got installed.

But, still I am not able to install DPM Agent, installer is crashing with same error Event 1000.

    What should I do next??

    thanks

  • The error code 0xc0000005 usually indicates an access denied, are you running the executable as an administrator?

Also how are you running the DPM agent installation, when you install manually?

Try just running the executable from an administrative Command Prompt without any parametersz

  • I have run the setup as administrator itself, I tried running it with Administrator command prompt as well but nothing worked.

I am domain administrator and I have all the privileges.

From same user ID I have installed Windows Management framework 4.

  • This looks like an issue with the Windows Installer and not with the DPM agent installer package.

I suggest you try to scan for any corrupted system files on your server, you can refer to the link below:

  • Hi Mr. Leon,

    Sorry for delayed response.

I ran System File checker and Check Disk function as well, no error was observed in both the utilities.

Then I tried disabling my HIDS agent, as the system is in external network.

But that also did not resolved the issue.

    I am clue less now.

I don't want to format the Server, as it is equipped with the development environment.

    What should I do??

  • I'm not familiar with HIDS what does it do?

If you have any antivirus software, you may try disabling them, sometimes this isn't even enough, then you would have to temporarily uninstall it as they may block installations or cause them to crash.

    Please check the following:

    • Make sure that your Windows Server 2008 R2 server is fully patched and up-to-date.
    • Perform a clean boot in Windows, then try the installation again.
    • Provide the logs when you're trying to install the DPM agent.

You could also try the troubleshooters in the below links:

  • Hi Mr. Leon,

I have uninstalled Antivirus in the server and Uninstalled HIDS agent as well.

Now tried booting windows in clean boot, as described in your procedure.

But no luck, i still got the same error.

Attaching the CBS.log, I have restarted the server in Clean boot at 12:50 PM.

  • This appears to be some deeper issue, it's difficult to say what could be causing this.

One faster option would be to reinstall the operating system, also note that Windows Server 2008 R2 is nearing its End of Life support, so I'd recommend upgrading to a newer operating system "if possible".

I am getting error 360: virtual disk service error

I have found on one of the microsoft forum that the making disk offline\online resolved the issue, but it didnt work for me.
