SCM 3.0 - Why does Exporting to GPO Backup and Importing that Backup alter the settings so drastically? RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is what I'm seeing.  No changes are made to the duplicated Baseline prior to the Export.

    • Duplicate the Win 7 computer Baseline. Original and Duplicate Compare with 0 differences.
    • Export the duplicated baseline to the GPO Backup Folder.
    • Import the exported GPO Backup - lists under GPO Import - (Baseline A).
    • Compare to the Windows 7 SP1 Baseline copy - (Baseline B).

    Result:

    • Total unique settings compared: 267
    • Total settings in common: 191
    • Total settings not in common: 76
    • Settings that Differ: 1 -- Profile System Performance is listed with the following differences:
    • Baseline A (GPO Import):  WdiServiceHost, Administrators
    • Baseline B (duplicate of the Baseline): NTSERVICE\WdiServiceHost, Administrators

Is this by design or is something broken?

  • After reading  social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/720f6515-47fc-4805-8ccb-dc144cb72078/action?threadDisplayName=gpo-backups-import-merge-export-problems I think I've identified that some of the differences come from the Not Defined/Not Configured settings not being backed up in the GPO Backup.  I can live with that.

The other issues are attributed to flaws within SCM 3 regarding GPO Imports...hopefully they'll be sorted out by the team soon.
