Foreground query RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Guy's

Can anyone tell me how I query our WID database through Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio? I need to find out whether or not our WSUS server is running in Foreground or Background Mode.

I know nothing at all about SQL Servers or SQL management systems. I am at the stage where I have kicked off MSSM studio and it has connected to the WID database. I am unsure what command to use to interrogate the DB.

Any help would be greatfully received.

    Regards.

  • Hello,

For Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008, you can use the following named pipes (NP) string:

    \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query
On Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 you must use a different np connection string:

    \\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query

You can connect to WID database with SQL server management studio.

To know whether your WSUS server is functioning well, you may use WSUS console.
