Laptop went into Hibernation on startup and I can't get it to resume. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new (about 9 mos. old) Dell Laptop with Windows Vista. I shut it down normally last night. When I turned it on this morning, it started to go through the normal start-up, then went into Hibernation. It's been in hibernation for about 3 hrs now. I have tried pressing keys to get out of it to no avail. I turned it off, and when I turned it back on, it did exactly the same thing. How do I get it out of Hibernation?

  • A few things you may want to try:

A: Try pulling the battery when the system is not connected to AC Power, should cause a hard shutdown.
B: Or it could be the battery has a low charge level and it just need to site and charge for a bit.
C: Try to start in Safe Mode, Pressing F8 during start up.

  • Thank you very much. Option A worked. I was able to get it restarted and changed the settings so it won't go into Hibernation like that again.
