Remote Operations Manager Media RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Can anyone let me know where I can download the Remote Operations Manager Media?

I have SCOM MSDN copy and there is no specific Remote Operations Manager Media with it, nor indeed can we find any on our SPLA downloads and have even contacted our SPLA distributor and they don't know where we can get it and are having to ask Microsoft and cannot tell me when they will have an answer for us.

I have searched the web and looked on connect and partner site also - no luck.

There is reference to the media in the Remote Operations Manager deployment guide to install the Service Provider Management Pack.  I don't know what else is on the media.

    Thanks

  • Hello Andy,

The Remote Operations Manager install media is provided to partners after executing a SPLA agreement when you have SCE customers ready to manage in Service Provider Mode. It is never downloadable, but your Microsoft SPLA distributor should be able to help. I would keep pushing them to make the right contacts at Microsoft.

Find the release notes for Remote Operations Manager SP1 at this link:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/3/3/a33f9324-cb52-441f-beb5-24dd42a33084/relnotes.htm

On the ROM install media there are two unique items: The Service Provider management pack, and the stand-alone installer for Remote Web Workplace (RWW).

    Good luck,

  • Hi John,

Our SPLA supplier has now managed to order the media for us - which is good news, the bad news is that we may have to wait 2 weeks until it arrives!

This is very frustrating esspecially when considering we have access to download pretty much all other Microsoft software when we need it for SPLA deployments (we have been providing hosted services to our customers and been paying monthly under SPLA agreement for Microsoft software for a number of years now).

Thanks for the link, so far our testing has gone well with both SCOM and Essentials, pretty straight forward thus far, although I'm sure we will run into complexities once we use and configure in anger.  We have now though come to a complete stop and cannot continue testing until we receive the media.

Can you think of any other ways or have any links to download to obtain this media - given we allready have an SPLA agreement (Am wondering if I have just missed it somewhere - although have trawlled through every link and partner resourse on Microsoft I can find (We are a certified Gold Partner also)

    Thanks

  • Andy,

I've experienced the same frustration in trying to set up our NOC in order to demo managed services to some clients.  After a bit of work with my SPLA Partner - I was redirected to MVLS support.  I just spoke with a nice young lady at MVLS support, and she informed me that this product is not available in any electronic form - only through hard media.  I was a bit more fortunate in that my SPLA provider is able to get it to me in 2 days - not 2 weeks.

  • Hello John,

This thread is a bit dated, we are trying to setup Ops manager in Service Provider mode as well.. we are having all the same issues finding the Remote operations manager software -
Just got off the phone with Microsoft (non SPLA) they mentioned that it is no longer available via SPLA --

So frustrating.. do you know if this product is still alive?  Are we wasting our time trying to follow the Remote ops maanger path - I really would like to get the Management pack and RWW...thanks

  • Hi Brian -

I would not wait on getting any ROM media to proceed with montioring customer networks with System Center. You can use the default components of OpsMgr 2007 to deploy a service provder model without the ROM management pack.

The management pack does not provide any critical functionality, and the RWW piece can be substituted with another remote access technology such as IP KVM / HP ILO / Dell DRAC / Intel RMM, etc.

You can setup agents and gateways on customer networks and connect them to your service provider instance of OpsMgr using standard OpsMgr Gateway attach methods detailed in Pete Zerger's great writeup at http://www.it-jedi.net/2007/03/gateway-server-and-pki-scenarios-in.html.

If your customer has Essentials 2007, you can go ahead and Enable Service Provider Mode on the Essentials 2007 server as under the ROM model, but prepare your management group as if you were installing a normal OpsMgr Gateway. OpsMgr will see the customer Essentials 2007 instance as if it were an ordinary OpsMgr Gateway.

    Good luck,

  • Thanks John,

I have came to that same conclusion - and we have implemented the same - I am still wishful that MS would package/release RWW as an addon it is fantastic for SMB..

    Thanks again
