Skype Meetings App issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a user who is experiencing issues with the Skype Meetings App on a single laptop.

When trying to join a Skype meeting (hosted by an external company) they get to the standard lobby page asking 'How would you like to join your meeting?' Clicking on the 'Open URL' option downloads the msi installer but pop up window remains. Cancel option has no effect.

If you try and download and run the Skype Meetings App msi installer, after reporting 'configuring the app' a new tab opens in the browser then closes again immediately.

Skype meetings App shows as installed in the users programs and features but won't allow you to uninstall it, even if you direct to the downloaded msi file (Error: SkypeMeetinsApp.msi is not a valid installation package for the product Skype meetings App):

    So far I have tried:

    Changing browser

    Using Incognito Tab

    O365 Repair

    Multiple Reboots

    1. Navigate to  %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync and delete the sip_ profile name folder

    Can anyone suggest next steps?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi DougET,

Do you mean that only the user with the specific laptop have this issue?

Do other users logging in this specific laptop face the same issue?

Is there any error message if the user joins Skype meeting by the client?

If the Skype meeting is organized by your own company and the user also uses Skype Meeting App to join it, what is the result?

It recommends the user to log in another laptop and try again. If without problem, it may be related to the single laptop.

You could try to turn off ActiveX filtering and turn on JavaScript for Skype meetings App on this laptop.

If it is no luck, you could create a new profile on the specific laptop and have a try.

For reference, you can read this article to troubleshoot the Skype Meetings App.

  • Hi Sharon,

    Thanks for feedback.

Meeting is being hosted by another organisation, we don't have Skype for Business licences so can't use the local client to connect.

User can connect fine on other laptops so it does seem to be specific to his machine (Surface laptop), unfortunately we are all working remotely atm due to current global situation so other options are more complicated.

Ideally I'd like to uninstall and reinstall the meetings app client but I'm currently unable to do that given the issues reported above.

    Regards,

    Doug

  • Hi DougET,

It is really a trouble. If possible, the user can try to delete the profile and re-create a new profile.
