    In addition, you can check the Structure of the Compatibility View List in this article. Please know that for recent versions of Internet Explorer, the Compatibility View list is an XML file maintained by Microsoft. The Compatibility View List is based on feedback collected during the development of Internet Explorer.

    And which version of IE it uses to emulate is defined in the compatibility list.
