sharepoint 3.0 send an alert to different people based on certain criteria RRS feed

  • Is there a way to create different alerts based on the criteria input in a list. I want to send an alert to one person if the list shows his department froma drop down and send the alert to someone else if the list shows a diffrenet department. Can this be done?

    If I understand your requirement then you are saying that if a field value is added with a specif department a specific set of people should get alerts. 

    If yes I would suggest you to implement this using the sharepoint designer workflow.

  • You're looking at workflow, 3rd party alert software (Search Pentalogic, Bamboo, SPAlertManager, Virto or Boost) or custom dev for this.

  • Both the replies below are valid, you've effectively got two options: -

    1. SharePoint Designer 2007 is a free poweruser / admin level tool for the product that comes packaged with a set number of triggers and actions.  These van be plugged into your list and be built to fire off alerts according to the selection.   As its code free, if these don't meet your solution: -
    2. As Pentalogic says, any major third party workflow engine will also work as would custom code.

  • I did download desginer and with a little prcative I was able to set up all the alerts needed and a few extra. Thanks for everyone's help.
