When attempting to edit a project in the PWA I receive the error: 'An error occurred while opening your project. Give us a few minutes and try again...' Project Server 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am hoping someone can assist with the error we are encountering when trying to edit a project from the PWA in Project Server 2013.  I can click on the project name and go to the detail page and I can click and see the schedule.  However, if I click on a task in the schedule and attempt to edit it, I receive the following error:

'An error occurred while opening your project. Give us a few minutes and try again. If this happens again, contact your administrator.'

At this point I must click cancel twice to get rid of the error pop-up message.  At this point, I am no longer able to look at the schedule of the project either.  Can someone assist with this issue?

    Thanks

  • Hi Antonio,

Is the issue happening for all the projects or only some projects?

Is the PSVR 2013 migrated from PSVR 2007 or PSVR 2010?

Try to check for Null Tasks

    select  * from pub.MSP_TASKS

    where PROJ_UID = Project Uid'

    and TASK_NAME is Null

    Thanks,
    Phani

  • Hi antonio,

In addition to Phani's advice, which version of IE are you using?

Can you reproduce the issue on another mahcine and with another browser?

    Hope this helps,

  • I'm wondering if you did a migration ?

Did you do the bulk update of project sites....

Certain things work and some don't if you dont use the bulk update tool....

  • Back to Phani's point.  PWA does not like blank lines in schedule.  Try opening in project pro and remove any blank lines.

  • I have run into this problem.

It seems that using double dash sign name project "-" and dept "-" wil give an error for creating.

    E.g. ICT - Name - Dept

So I think that special characters should be avoided is not neccessary.

  • Can you run the below command in SharePoint Management shell:

    set-spprojectpcssettings -maximumworkerscount 260

Once done restart the Project Services and then check the behavior.

  • Can anyone confirm if this solution is working?
I have the same warning in our evironment.

MaximumWorkersCount is "200" at the moment.
    MS Project 2013 - CU June 2014

    Thanks in advance
