ADFS Without AD? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we have an application which we want 3rd parties to use to authenticate using their own active directory domains.

can we install ADFS without active directory? and allow 3rd party SSO access to our application?

  • ADFS requires the presence of user accounts in Active Directory or Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) for the account Federation Service.

  • thanks - thats what i thought...basically the setup we are looking for is something similar to this

we have a web application hosted externally which we want to allow our 3rd party clients to access. We want to use ADFS authentication where the 3rd parties AD is the authentication source and an adfs trust is in place between our application and the 3rd party. So on our side we just need ADFS and ADFS proxies? But do we actually need AD where the application is installed, or can we install ADFS on non-domain joined servers?
