user id & password prompt for 2003 PWA Project Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Odd issue. The user is able to connect to Project Server PWA site, however it prompts for his credentials even after he puts them in and they're correct (maybe prompts 3 times). The user can authenticate, so it's not like the credentials are bad, the site isn't using anonymous authentication and is using windows integrated authentication so it shouldn't continually prompt for authentication.

  • Hi cschaar,

All of your users on Project Server 2003 getting this prompt or only particular user have this issue?

I see this symptom when Discuss option is selected in IE (on IE, View menu -> Explorer Bars -> Discuss)

If Discuss option is checked, please uncheck this option and close the browser. Open the new browser and try to access the PWA.

    Thanks

  • One possible cause could be that an old account gets stuck in the User Accounts
    which might cause that....

Check out Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Network Accounts (in Vista,
a bit different in XP), and delete your PWA site from there.

  • I suspected this might be the case as I earlier had this user verify the Manage Network Accounts, but it's blank so it's not the culprit. We recently created a trust relationship which was intended to help in bypassing the authentication between domains, but in this instance it seems like it still wants to prompt for the credentials even though they've been entered. Any suggestions?

Perhaps Account Logon events on the DC's?

  • Hi cschaar,

Is the PWA site in the Trusted Sites zone and is the security level of the Trusted Sites zone set to low?

Could also be a problem with your domain trust. Is it a single-way trust or a full two-way trust?

  • I've tried modifying the values Siram mentioned, but no changes occured.

To the best of my knowledge this is only occuring with one specific user.  I will try your recommendation and reply back on if it works or not. Thanks for your help.
