Authenticator doesn't work on Apple Watch (series 7) RRS feed

    1. I installed the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store on my iPhone 11 Pro Max.
    2. After configuring everything and assuring it was working as intended (synced passwords),
    3. i proceed to install the app on the Apple Watch Series 7. I'm presented with 3 screens, ending with a button saying "Get started".
    4. When i click that, i go to a page saying " "Get started by adding a personal Microsoft account on the phone app"
    5. I opened the phone app, there is no notification or anything on the phone end. 

    After that, no updates on the watch or the phone. I can confirm the phone app is working as intended, as i continue to sync information between services and having my codes updated.

    Hey spleenandcigars. I've heard a lot about Authenticator not working on Apple Watches. If I had to make a guess, it's a connection issue. You see, if your Apple Watch goes to sleep while it's communicating with your phone, it can stall the connection between the two devices and cause errors. I know you say the phone app can sync data, so I think it's safe to say that it's the watch app that's not working? In that case, Microsoft recommends force quitting Authenticator on both devices (do it twice for your watch) before turning off the WIFI and Bluetooth connections on your phone and watch. Afterwards, turn them back on and restart the devices.

    Fair point Joseph McGee 54. I, too, have heard stories about Authenticator and Apple Watches not seeing eye-to-eye. To go off your connection issue, I think it is also important to stress that you need to make sure to keep your Apple Watch active until the setup phase is complete. It seems like most (if not all) users experience the most trouble at this stage. If you're reading this and you have found yourself in a similar situation to the original poster, don't forget – keep your watch active. Also, respond to any messages that appear on your phone during setup.

    Has there been any developments with this problem? Any definite solutions? I see where some of you are coming from when you say it's a connection issue, but is there a way to identify the exact causes and fix them? Or is this one of those situations where Microsoft will release a patch in due time? Possibly with Apple's assistance? I hope they're working on it. In the meantime, I think I'll try Jack and Joseph's methods. Thank you for your insightful comments, you two.

    You have to disable App Lock under security. This is a by design security feature but can be disabled

    How to unlock Authenticator with Apple Watch

    Before you can use your Apple Watch to unlock Authenticator, you’ll need to set up Auto Unlock on your Mac. Then follow these steps:

    - Be sure to use the same iCloud account on your desktop with which you have paired your Apple Watch.
    - Open and unlock Authenticator on your desktop.
    - Go to Authenticator settings in the top left corner, next find and enable Unlock with Apple Watch.

    Now you can use your Apple Watch to unlock Authenticator.

    After you set up Authenticator to unlock using your Apple Watch, open the app. If Authenticator is locked, you’ll see a message that Authenticator is trying to unlock. To approve and unlock Authenticator, double-click the side button on your Apple Watch.

    Make sure the Microsoft Authenticator app is version 6.0. 0 or higher on your iPhone. Open the Microsoft Authenticator companion app on your Apple Watch and look for any accounts with a Set Up button beneath them. Complete that set up process to approve notifications.

    Follow these steps: Be sure to use the same iCloud account on your desktop with which you have paired your Apple Watch. Open and unlock Authenticator on your desktop. Go to Authenticator settings in the top left corner, next find and enable Unlock with Apple Watch.
