SCCM 2007 R3 and SCCM 2012 SP1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'd like to get some advice and assistance on my situation please.

We have SCCM 2007 R3 running with say 100 clients.

I installed SCCM 2012 SP1 on a new server. This sever will be used for Endpoint Protection deployment only. Endpoint protection is installed on this server and managed.

I'd like to deploy Endpoint protection to the 100 clients and have them managed, but not impacting any of the SCCM 2007 deployment.

    Is that possible?

  • Hi,

I am sorry to say that it is not possible. The Configuration Manager 2007 and 2012 clients cannot co-exist on a computer. So there are no possibility to use a sccm 2007 site for managing the clients and a SCCM 2012 site for Managing just Endpoint Protection on those clients.

    Regards,
    Jörgen

  • Thanks. If say I want to migrate one of the SCCM 2007 clients to SCCM 2012, can you please tell me what the best approach to take?

  • Hi,

Just to upgrade the client for test you can just run ccmsetup.exe from the SCCM 2012 site server and it will automatically upgrade the old client for you. But it also depends on what you are using your Configuration manager 2007 Environment for today, as your client will no longer recieve applications, OS deployments, software updates and so on from your old Environment.
make sure you have created a boundary and a boundary Group in the SCCM 2012 environment and configured it for Content Location only, otherwise the client installtion will not find the client source files.

  • If I make the boundary group for content location only, I get the "Some of the selected resources are not assigned to any site" error when deploying the client, unless I tick "Install the client software from a specified site". Either way I can't get the SCCM 2012 client deployed to an old SCCM 2007 client. Help please.

  • Hi,

If you run ccmsetup.exe manually on the client and use ccmsetup.exe /SMSSITECODE=xxx for your sccm 2012 site code it should work just fine. have the new SCCM 2012 site published it's information in AD?

  • Thanks for your help Jorgen. I can now deploy clients from the console. I didn't need to set the boundary group for content location only. I simply forgot to add the account for client push installation :(
