Project Pro 2016 fails to get work items by query from TFS 2015 Update 2: Error converting value 'System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity' ... to type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Services.Identity.IdentityDescriptor'. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi:

I'm using Project Pro 2016 client copy on Windows 7, and it fails to "get work items" by a saved query from Team foundation Server (TFS) 2015 with Update 2. However, getting the work items by ID or Title are fine. The error message is the following:

    Error converting value 'System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity' ... to type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Services.Identity.IdentityDescriptor'. Path 'authenticatedUser.descriptor', line 1, position 169.

    Thanks for the help!

    Jack

  • I'm passing for the same problem here.. I noted that if I uninstall TFS2015 and install TFS 2013 this feature works again...

Is there any workaround to solve this?

  • Same as me. The team update TFS from 2013 to 2015. Then I can't get the query list in Project 2013 and 2016.

  • For those still having issues with this, I was able to install the TFS Office Integration package for TFS 2017 and it solved the issue.

    Link: https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/downloads/#team-foundation-server-office-integration-2015-update-3-1

Check your TFS versions and make sure you are not trying to use the TFS 2015 office integration package with TFS 2017 (as I was.)

    Hope this is helpful.
