Unable to delete the search service application RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Environment :- Sharepoint 2010

Issue :- Unable to delete the “search service application” (Which is a provider farm to the consumer farms)

    Things Tried to delete:-

    1. From the GUI interface it takes for ever (Failed)
    2. Was able to get the ID (GUID) of the enterprise search service application by executing the powershell command “get-spenterprisesearchserviceapplication”
    3. Then used the stsadm command to delete the configurationobject (the command is stsadm.exe -o deleteconfigurationobject -id GUID) which also takes for ever (Failed)

The reason we are deleting the search service application is because, we have another farm which we want the “search service application” to be running and publish\render to the consumer farms

    Can I try the below:-

Log on to the SQL server and delete the SearchAdminDatabase which was displayed after executing powershell command (“get-spenterprisesearchserviceapplication”) and then try to delete the search service application from the GUI.

As we have another farm where we want to host the search service application, should I ignore the service running on the server (where I am not able to delete the service ) and recreate the new service on the new server.

    Please advise

    Satyam

  • Are you receiving an error when the delete attempt fails? Are there any other details in the ULS logs?

  • Jason,

    Nothing in the event log.
within the ULS log, below is the image which give the info about start of the STSADM command. And i have marked (In red) a message being displayed "No assembly manifest found"

  • That's not a problem. Are there any lines that contain the text "[ERROR]"?

When you try through the GUI and STSADM you said it failed. Does it provide you with an error at this time? Does nothing happen? Do you stop it somehow?
