Release Idle DHCP Addresses RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a setting I can put on a scope where it acts like a timer where if no activity is happening, it releases the address?

    Problem

I have an open guest wireless where users have to be issued with a ticket to browse. So if you have no ticket, you will not go past the welcome page prompting for your ticket. Its all well and good to that point.

The issue occurs when the DHCP server issues and address to the device to facilitate the connection. And since the lease time is of, say 3 hours, that address is locked to that device until the lease expires.

So basically I need a way to expedite the release of the address if you are not granted permission to browse.

DHCP server could not determine if DHCP client is activity.

You could configure shorter address lease and block connection from client when it is not activity.
