Sharepoint Online - Make a text field required when another field option value is selected and vice-versa

    Question

  • Hello folks,

In SharePoint Online,  how or where do I create a rule or formula if one field is  a drop down and if a value from one of the options is selected, another field's text field is now a required field for them to enter the info. Also, if the option is "deselected", the text field is no longer a required one.

For example, if the drop down is called Banks and the values are "AA, BBB, CC, DD, None, etc." If they select any of the values other than "None", the text field called "Branch" is NOW A REQUIRED FIELD. Conversely, if the user selects "None"  OR leaves it blank in  the Bank dropdown field, the "Branch" is now an OPTIONAL field.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Higher ED MS User,

We can add rules to “Branch” field using InfoPath to make it a required filed when the value of “Banks” field is not blank and is not equal to “None”.

    1. Customize the form using InfoPath.

    2. Select “Branch” field, and add a Validation rule.

    3. Add the following conditions.

    4. In the ScreenTip field enter “Required“

    5. Publish the form.

    Best regards,
