Field collapsing & duplicate removal RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is it possible to customize the duplicate removal feature? It is apparently handle by the documentsignature managed property. But I would like to either be able to write in this property(it looks like the documentsignature stage happens after the mapping and thus replace the map valued). Or either use another int field for collapsing.

Is the field collapsing feature configurable in the webpart?

    Best regards,

  • Hello Phong,

As stated on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff521593.aspx you can specify which property you want to apply the duplicate trimming to. This is supported on both the FASTSearchRuntime and KeywordQuery objects, as well as with the search web service.

And the Core Results Webpart has an option to turn on duplicate removal, but only on the default field.

  • Hi Mikael,

I know this question is quite old, but currently I'm trying use the Core Results Webpart to collapse on a custom integer field. I've used pipeline extensibility to create this custom field and have mapped it successfully to a managed property. Is there no option to point the Core Results Webpart to this new managed property or is it only limited to the default documentsignature field?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

You will have to create a custom core results webpart if you want to override/change the property you want to use for collapsing. So it's not a public field you can set.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Mikael,

Thanks for the reply. I noticed though that the xslt in the core results web part makes no mention of the documentsignature managed property. Though, I do see the fields "CollapsingStatusLink", "CollapseDuplicatesText", "DuplicatesLinkText" and "collapsingstatus" but those fields all seem to refer to actions done after the processing of the documentsignature field. Can the xslt be modified in such a way that I can plug in my managed property, or will more customization beyond the xslt be required?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Modifying the xslt does not help. It only works on the returned result. So you will have to create a custom web part as I wrote in my previous answer.

    Thanks,
