Workflow to assign a Incident from Operations manager to a certain user depending on the management pack RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have SCOM 2012 generating tickets into SCSM 2012. What i want to do is, when an alert occurs in Operations manager from a specific management pack, I want the corresponding ticket which is generated to be assigned to a certain individual.

Example, if SCOM 2012 generates an alert which belongs to MS SQl management pack, the corresponding ticket should be assigned to the database administrator.

All connectors are working, tickets are generating fine. I also created a template which has the DB admin as the assignment.

When I go to create a workflow, there I dont see a way for me to select a condition that says if this ticket was generated by MS SQL management pack, assign to DB admin.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Thank you,
    AJ

  • Hi,

In the SCOM alert connector itself you can configure 'Alert Routing Rules'. In there you can configure:

    • Name
    • Template - This is the incident template you want to apply to the particular incident (ie from SQL)
    • Select Criteria - This is where you specify the criteria to apply. For instance the management pack name in your scenario (ie SQL)

Below is an example I have where I am applying a template named "Custom - PCI Demo" and looking for a Management Pack name which contains 'PCI'.

  • Hi,

You configure this in the SCOM Alert connector itself under the 'Alert Routing Rule' section.

    Thanks

  • Hi Mark,

I am not  sure if I understand,  can you please elaborate. I have the alert connector configured already which is creating tickets in SCSM. I want the ticket to be assigned to a specific person depending on which SCOM management pack generated the alert and the ticket.

    Thank you,

    Amol

  • Thats perfect, I missed that completely when I created the connector.

One last question, should i specify management pack name as it appears on the ticket under the extension section

    "Microsoft.Windows.Server.2008.Monitoring"
