Rename the default folders in Outlook (Renaming Calendar Folder)

Question
-
In exchange 2007 i used to be about to rename the calendar folder using either of these tools
mfcmapi http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/
Exchange 2003 Information Store Viewer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3D1C7482-4C6E-4EC5-983E-127100D71376&displaylang=en
In Exchange 2010 they both don't seem to work.
Does anyone know how i can rename the calendar folder?Tuesday, June 7, 2011 7:25 AM

Thanks, HAdmin that worked for me as well :) glad to have this finally working :) Below is my step by step guide.
- Configure Outlook profile to "Use Cached Exchange Mode"
- Download MFCMapi http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/
- Extract, Run MFCMapi.exe & Click OK on the intro screen.
- Click Session -> Logon
- Select the profile name for which you want to change the folder names (Will be called Outlook if you only have 1 profile)
- This will display your mailbox stores. Look for “Default Store” property that is set to “True” and open this.
- Expand “Root Container”, Expand "IPM_SUBTREE"
- Select the folder that you want to rename; the name will become highlighted.
- Click on the folder again; the name should now become editable.
- Type the new name for the folder and then press ENTER.
- Close MFCMapi

In my case putting the client in exchange caching mode and then use MFCMAPI again it will work.
Tested this on a SBS2011 with Exchange 2010 SP1 and Windows 7
Exchange 2010 SP2 with Windows 7 it also works with the latest MFCMAPI client
Saved my day.

You can't rename the default folders in Exchange 2010 or you can't rename them at all in any versions?
I have renamed them on Exchange 2007 using the above methods.

I just setup 2x test server
In exchange 2007 i can rename the default folders
In Exchange 2010 i cannot rename the default folders
See print screens below.
Does anyone know how i can rename folders in Exchange 2010 and if you can't is there any documentation as to why?
Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange 2007 = Can rename default folders
Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange 2010 = Cannot rename default folders

Hi Jed,
I test in my lab (Exchange 2010 SP1, Exchange 2007 SP3 and Outlook 2010), get the same result with you.
If you want to know why MFCmapi cannot rename for the default folder, you can refer to this document (This function will be called when we edit a node so we can attempt to commit the changes section)
https://mfcmapi.svn.codeplex.com/svn/HierarchyTableTreeCtrl.cpp
Thanks,
Evan

Thanks for confirming that, i was hoping that someone would have anoher way to rename folders in Exchange 2010. Oh well, stuck with the defaults i guess.

Try this version of MFCMapi 6.0.0.1018 (x86 build).. I could rename the system folders and could move them around without any errors.
I hope this helps.

When i try and rename the calendar folder of a mailbox that is on my Exchange 2010 server I still get the error below.
Can you confirm that you can rename the calendar folder? Are you running Exchange 2010
Thanks
Jed

Hi Jed,
I also tried to rename the calendar folder with MFCMAPI x64 (v15.0.0.1031) and get the same error as you. Did you found a way to rename this folder?
Thanks,

And that is why Microsoft does not fix stuff -- too many of us just say "oh well".
Microsoft! Please get on the ball with these type of things. Don't remove features like allowing us to use a product the way we want to use it, then hope we will just say "oh well".
